Fools Gold 50 and the end of the 2008 MTB Season

Saturday was the our last race of the season, and fittingly, it was the first race for our team 12 short months ago: The Fools Gold 100/50 mile MTB Race @ Bull Mountain and Jake Mountain trails in Dahlonega, GA

The competition this year was much tougher, and the field was about twice as large, but the weather was mercifully mild. We camped close to the start and were off to a great race at 7 am.

Bike Forum- City of ATL and ABC

Jul 19 2008 - 10:00am
Jul 19 2008 - 12:00pm
Location:
central library downtown, Forsyth/Peachtree streets

Hey everybody, the new City of ATL transportation plan is awesome for cyclists, it takes emphasis off moving cars and focuses more on moving people- getting the city back to a human scale where people will want to walk, bike, take transit, and makes it a nicer place to be. There are good people working on this and it's at the stage where they're putting the recommendations from the public into the plan, then it will be approved by city council. See www.connectatlantaplan.com, and the documents page for the bike map. Atlanta Bicycle Campaign is hosting this opportunity for the public to meet with planners, city officials, etc. to review the plan and make suggestions/recommendations. Hope some of you can make it.

Festival Of Speed - Saturday

Jul 12 2008 - 3:00pm
Jul 12 2008 - 9:30pm
Location:
Dick Lane Velodrome

Saturday Festival of Speed
*Bonus Madison Race
Directions

Tickets only $5.00 or $10 per family for Saturday

Pro Racing action starts at 6:00pm on Saturday

Track cycling pushes the envelope of speed and danger in both hard charging sprint events and grueling endurance races. Experience the thrill of the two-man Madison, comparable to tag-team on bike, where teammates exchange positions into the action at 40 mph using the dangerous Madison hand sling. Catch the fast-paced Keirin, an Olympic event where riders are paced up to maximum speed with a motorcycle until the final lap and a half when they tear up the track to the finish. Enjoy a great night out with the family as you get up close and personal with cycling's top athletes! Or come before your big night out-A great place to meet your friends and hang out.

There is a full service concession stand on site for Saturday - all proceeds go back to support the DLV programs.

7.6.8 No Brakes year anniversary race

Jul 6 2008 - 6:00pm
Jul 6 2008 - 11:00pm
Location:
No Brakes

We are throwing our Year Anniversary Race. This race is as much about where we have been as where we are going so don't be surprised by a bit of Deja Vu. Riders of any type on any type of bike are welcome, but of course it won't hurt our feelings if you come out riding no brakes. The afterparty is taking place at Lamplighter Cafe with drink specials provided by the brewers of my personal favorite Beer(the rye pale ale). As always racers should come prepared with the usual tools of the trade as well as a couple of extra bucks if not for an extra souvenir during the race than at least for beer at the end.

Outback Bikes: the official bike shop of FM:Race

Choosing the best bike shop to sponsor FM's race team was easy. Outback bikes is the only shop in Atlanta that has the expertise and inventory to support a kick-ass track team AND a lip-huckin' mountain bike team. Plus they are conveniently located in L5P. And, of course, we heart Ross and Amelia. And you, too, Pete.

They have been super generous to support a completely unproven, grass-roots, mostly beginner race team and I want to send a public "Thank You!" to the Outback crew. Next time you are in there stockin' up, please let them know you are grateful for their support of FM and the ATL cycling scene.
