So HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) race season is in full swing. These are events that allow pretty much anything, as long as its powered by a person.. or two. They fall under a few governing bodies depending on where in the world you are. Basically its all the stuff the UCI hates. Homebuilt, corporate built, student built and store bought bikes racers using anything they can to make them faster. There are various categories and classes to keep things fair. Interestingly the fastest bike on earth right (82mph on human power alone) now was designed and built by a sculptor with no engineering background.
Anyway.. here are some pics from Hellyer in San Jose, CA.

HPV @ DLV?
Do they host these events at the DL velo? Anywhere in GA?
Nope. The closest from here
Nope. The closest from here is Indy at Major Taylor or in Miami at Brian Picillo Velodrome. The race in Miami is no longer run. The organizer passed away after a battle with cancer. Hopefully someone restarts that event. It was nice because in addition the velodrome racing, the park also has a 1/3 mile criterium course. I raced down there in 2004.
There are several recumbent racers in Atlanta. (I'm one of them), A couple of guys on the south side of town, and a guy in Marietta, a couple in Augusta. There are another 8-10 really strong racers out of FL. Most of the HPV people travel all over the country for events since they are so spread out. The upper mid-west seems to be where most of the racers come from.
I think the nearest big event to see alot of fast recumbents is at 24 hours @ Sebring in Feb. That usually pulls in 20-25 of the top US bent guys.
I've seen the pedi-cabs around. I saw you up at the Decatur Arts festival and on the Path the other day down the the Dairy Queen. I'm the guy with the Xtracycle, usually with 2 kids on back.
I'm really not trying...
...to get no genital warts, so count me out.
maybe we can start
I've been to a few HPV championships in Milwaukee WI. They were raced on the Milwaukee Mile, a nascar type oval. Very cool, laid back group of athletes. I would guess if we could get enough support, DLV would let us compete. Any other "tracks" that could be used, not necessarily a velodrome? Aero_70, lets recline some time....
