Bike Bags

I'm sick of cardboard bike boxes that you have to hunt down and drag around before a trip, and then dispose of afterwards. Anyone know where I can find a good canvas bike bag to re-use? I kinda need one quick but I'll hold out for a deal too. If anyone wants to sell me one, I'll consider buying it while I'm town too.

I think Dfunk got his at

I think Dfunk got his at REI. Performance should have them too. I am borrowing a hard case for the Spaceship since it does not fit in the Courtney's S&S case.

what do y'all think of these?

I found three leading bags (cause I couldn't sleep and wait for an answer like a normal person)

The Sette Travel Bag - wheels, plastic bottom, canvas, no padding,
Ship/Fly: don't ship! fragile on planes - just add bubble wrap
Size: 52"x37"x9"
Quality: Cheap Bike
Cost: Cheap Bag $80

Bike Pro RaceCase Oversize - padded edge, foam panels,
Ship/Fly: somewhat shippable, fine for flying
Size: 46"x34"x10"
Quality: Good Middle-of-the-Road bag,
Cost: 'cept for that #%!@ price tag $390

TRICO IRONCASE HARDCASE {sic} - "ultra-light" iron case, full foam inside, lockable, Hardcore, unbreakable, etc. bulky yet a little short
Ship/Fly: very shippable, fly only with muscles
Size: 47"x30"x10"
Quality: Gets job done RIGHT
Cost: Bang for Buck?? $280

Ideally

the Trico, but if not that, the Sette.

Dfunk and Sharon came to London and packed their steel bikes in soft cases. They got here fine. I would be somewhat comfortable with a soft case if I had a steel bike. Have you tried any sites where you live to see if someone owns one and would loan? I borrowed mine from londonfgss.com. If I do get more serious about racing I might get my own.

I'd say don't get a soft

I'd say don't get a soft case unless it's padded and better made than the ones we got. The tore and fell apart over the course of one trip. We returned them to performance when we got home because the quality was pretty much crap. They got the job done, but in a disposable, one-time use kind of way.

That pro bike case looks cool. Condor also had a nice looking padded soft case when I visited their store in London. Dunno what it cost though. But yeah, if it ain't steel, I'd get a hard case.

Condor's costs

arm, leg, kidney with an option on your first born or one of your balls. I don't recall what it was, but the hard case they had cost £500!!!!!!!

Ouch

I figured. But their lugged frames are sexy. I have no idea how much the soft case was.

This may not matter to you,

This may not matter to you, but remember that the Trico and most other hard-sided bike boxes are designed for pretty standard road bikes. My full-suspension MTB only fits in an Ironcase if I leave one of the wheels out because the rear triangle is so wide, and even without the rear wheel its a tight fit in there.

ETA: My friend has this and swears its worth the $; far as I know he's only used it for Fedex ground shipping and not as checked air baggage though
