I'm looking for something under $1k
sturdy wheels
wide range of gearing
eyelets for racks/fenders
room for fattish tires
medium to long wheelbase.
Jamis Aurora has all everything I want (especially once I swap in my compact crank and Campy shifters). The Bianchi is half-way there. With the exact same ders and shifters the Biachi is ~50 bucks more.
Any other bikes like this that I'm missing?

I was recently looking at all these bikes. Finally decide to build up one due to the handlebars and brakes I wanted.
.
The Surly's are nice, but I can't figure out the ~$150 price jump compared to the Jamis. It's got pretty much the same components.
Also, everyone and their new born baby wrapped in a cloth around their chest around here has a Surly (but that shouldn't matter)
If you want it complete....
If you want it complete.... what he said.
If you can build it up, I say go rigid steel MTB with slicks.
