The other day Atwood and myself were going to swing by Atlantic Station to grab a few things. We rode a motorcycle over from 17th and while turning into the entrance an officer stopped us and told us we had to leave the premises immediately because motorcycles aren't allowed anywhere on the Atlantic Station's property. I haven't had time to write a letter questioning why motorcycles are specifically forbidden; while at the same time, the district allows numerous mopeds to make use of the property, etc. Just another reason I feel awkward while shopping in this particular retail district.
BTW...
Jason rides bitch. Always.

Looky here:
After receiving a number of complaints from Atlantic Station residents and guests about the noise and disruptions caused by motorcycles, a policy is now in place that prohibits motorcyclists from riding through and parking in the main retail district in Atlantic Station. However, we welcome motorcyclists to park in Target, IKEA or on-street parking spaces throughout Atlantic Station outside of the main retail district.

Those cyclists who yell are probably next...
Loud pipes save lives....
Loud pipes save lives.... and piss a lot of people off.
I've heard of HOA's suing homeowners for annoying all the other homeowners because of loud pipes, and winning.
By "main retail district" I think they mean "non-public roads."
loud pipes save lives
that's on par with saying helmets make you safer.
I'm the panda and I disapprove of this message.
.
but panda, one time, a buddy couldn't get his foot out of his toe clips and he fell over and even though he normally wouldn't have hit his head, his hemlet caught the curb. it was cracked so it saved his life!
Arg!
Why would they not ban vehicles producing over "X" decibels or something more rational or blanketed? All newly manufactured motorcycles must meet the same environmental standards as cars in terms of air and noise pollution. After purchase the buyer, just like with any other vehicle, has the ability to change the stock exhaust, preform a bafflectomy, etc.
Banning a type of vehicle solely based on an ability to modify the volume of it's exhaust doesn't seem justifiable. The manufacturing of aftermarket parts for small car and large truck exhaust systems is also a booming industry. Why not just ban loud vehicles if that is the real issue...
Blah Blah Blah.
Whatever. Lost cause. I plan on shopping elsewhere.
So does the bitch on the back, because (s)he ain't got no say no ways!
They used to have laws about
They used to have laws about mufflers/baffles on motorcycles, like cars. Somehow, that got changed. You have to run a quiet exhaust on a car, but evidently not a motorcycle anymore.
cars are too loud?
that's only in the mo'nin'. you s'posed to be up cookin' bre'fast fo' somebody.
I love Oakland
The whistles go WOO WOOOOO!
last spring
my ladyfriend rode her scooter through atlantic station, parked it in a parking spot (not in the garage, but in the street), and got a ticket.
we still don't know why.
ckdake -- i remember your story about your bike and the crazy security folks a while back, but i can't remember if it was ever successfully resolved. was it?
resolution -> don't go to
resolution -> don't go to atlantic station.
Loud pipes sort of negate
Loud pipes sort of negate the "quiet and peaceful use" concept inherit in private property ownership. Kind of like my neighbor who cranked his creaky old Datsun 240Z to tune it up at 11:30 last night. Noise wasn't as much an annoyance as the stinking exhaust. (Another shortcoming of scooters and motorcycles.)
Let the suckas walk...
.
my dad is a life long motorcyclist, and I can say with certainty that his half-loud pipes are fucking annoying.
the wind noise from a motor cycle at highway speeds is enough to damage your hearing when exposed for >3 hrs or so. add (half) loud pipes into the mix and i have one very deaf dad.
What?!?
did you say something?
