I specifically like how there's a trispoke flying through the air. My guess is that the fork ends separated from the fork's tubes.
i just dropped watermelon on my pants.

He caught some sweet air off of that disc wheel.
^lol
I had to watch it about five times to catch everything. Wow.
yikes.
i reluctantly watched with one eye.
i could have gone without seeing that... thanks.
No kidding. that made my
No kidding. that made my stomach turn.
Too many crashes this year on and off the velodrome. Just last monday night I had to drive a guy to the hospital with 3 broken ribs, dislocated shoulder and something else broken.
This has been the year of the bike crash.
"more cyclists, meaner streets"
article about more bike crashes in today's ajc
!everyone take it easy out there!
WTF?!?!?!?
recreational bikers are often sent onto surface streets that were not meant for them.
Everyone knows the
Everyone knows the interstates are where bikes belong
285 Crit
I just did the 285 Crit last night. That is some sort of intense. I would say anyone who is not at the UCI Pro level such as Gregg Rothy should not try that.
uhmmm
definitely some streets weren't meant for bikers....moreland, ponce de leon, etc.
debatable
I think roads such as Moreland, Ponce de Leon, and Clairmont could be quite safe for cyclists. They're usually at least 2 lanes in each direction, meaning cars have plenty of room to get around cyclists, even when there's no shoulder. The problem isn't that the road was or wasn't "meant for bikers", the problem is that most vehicle drivers treat these streets as highways, speeding heavily, and law enforcement does nothing about it.
sure
COULD, okay.
But, reality is, Moreland and Ponce have no shoulder room, and in the summer they're both hot as sh*t b/c lack of shade. Speed limit should remain the same on those streets in my opinion b/c I drive those streets all the time.
speed limit
the speed limit on those streets is 35 (i think).
people routinely go over 50. i'm with billy's oft-repeated sentiment around this site: people should all drive the speed limit.
if folks went 35 like they're supposed to, ponce and moreland, etc. would be great places for biking. personally, i love riding west on ponce between decatur and highland or so... lots of rolling hills. but i only ride on ponce really early on weekend mornings or late late late at night during the week.
fwiw
Chris, Austin: everyone walked away from the crash.
yea
i was just being a little dramatic. i was hesitant to watch, but once i realized everyone was ok and saw that dude launch up to the boards - i actually watched the clip several times.
yeah
if he had spent more time on a bmx as a kid, he might have ridden out the wall ride!
yup, I saw that, but
yup, I saw that, but ...
here's a thread on the crash from other Velodrome racers

Apparently local pro Emile Abraham was in this crash, plus lots of comments about the unique aspects of that track and the lack of glue on somebody's tire. Glad everybody walked away.
that was insane!
Its a good thing their track doesn't have the special 60 grit "skin eliminator" surface like ours.
