These guys are aloways looking for tires to reuse the wires in the bead as strings for their musical instruments:

a lot of websites i saw about recycling bike parts said look for local artists, and i just thought "jeez, hasn't the bike part art thing been done, what's the likelihood of that still happening?" but there you go.
is steel wire that expensive that it's really worth extracting from tires?
now the tire stack is down by half...just gotta figure out what to do with the kevlar beaded ones.
Walk into a hadware store
and ask for spring steel wire. No one has it. I suppose you could get piano wire, but I am not sure it would sound the same or withstand the tension a berimbau puts on it (I snapped a thick-ish braided steel picture wire like it was string trying to use it once).
They'll be happy to take it. Bike tires are easier to use than car ones and they always always always need wire (on a good day when things are jamming and the energy is high they can go through about 3-5 wires - a bike tire yields about 2).
