Riding to Hi-Fi Buys/Lakewood Amphitheater

Best route? Is marta even worth it? The marta station seems far enough away that cycling directly from the inman park area might be just as good. Hurray radiohead!

MARTA shuttle

Last time I went there was a shuttle from the station that went right up to the gate past all the parking lots. I don't know if they do it for every show, but it's the way to go if so.

austinisnorobot's picture

yeah and they let you in

an hour early if you show you took marta. THAT'S RIGHT! A WHOLE HOUR EARLY!!!! WAIT 3.5 HOURS INSTEAD OF 2! HOORAY MARTA!!!!!!

or one could bike and flash

or one could bike and flash breezecard?

kurt's picture

I don't think so

They actually let the MARTA bus in early.

does this marta shuttle have bike racks?

I don't live anywhere close to a marta station, unfortunately.

X-topher's picture

all marta busses

all marta busses have bike racks. And the last time I went to lakewood (6 years ago) it was a bus, not a shuttle.

spiffyk's picture

Yes, a regular bus

By shuttle I meant it was a regular bus but instead of having a route with stops it just goes direct to the ampitheatre.

austinisnorobot's picture

yes you do.

yr like a 10 minute walk to the marta station above my house, dude.

hembree's picture

walk??

10 minutes??

austinisnorobot's picture

I know, I know.

yr legs'll fall off. yeesh.

i'm interested.

i'm interested in hearing your experience with MARTA/bike/etc last night... i rode in a carpool with some folks and we got there early for some tailgating (grills, coolers, tunes, etc). no real problem. however, after the show we did not even bother turning the car on until ~12:15AM. we were stuck in the parking lot for over an hour! big mistake! tons of cars just sitting there idle and waiting.

how was the shuttle last night? i've had good and bad experiences with the MARTA/Lakewood combo in the past. remind me to do the right thing next time.

**!the show was awesome!**

well I'm not david.

I got home at like 11.45. but that's only because the eastbound train at 5 points took like 20 minutes to get there. some dastardly thinkers drove to the lakewood marta, parked for free and took the free shuttle to and from lakewood. genius, I tells ya!

we did the MARTA thang...

And overall I give the experience a B-. The general slowness of MARTA resulted in us getting to the show later than we hoped (some friends left via car at the same time as us and we got a "booya" text message from them while we waited to switch trains in 5 points).

Getting back was pretty sweet. We didn't have to walk far to get onto the shuttle, and the shuttle was shepherded through traffic quickly. Of course the trains rotate much less frequently at night, so we waited in the station for like 30 minutes.

Austin's idea of carpooling to Lakewood MARTA then hopping onto the shuttle (which wasn't checking to see if you had a rail transfer), while I agree is dastardly, would be the best way to logistically see a show at Lakewood, if you have a car. However, I do not agree that there is ever a good reason to see a show at Lakewood, unless it is Radiohead again. The show was friggin amazing.
