Track Training

griggey's picture

Now that I have a track bike together, I've been going down to the track to train. So far, Sunday afternoons are the days that I know I can make it down there (aside from racing during the week). Is anyone (particularly those racing under the FM banner) interested in meeting up to do regular training?

Sunday doesnt work for me

But I would be interested in a regular non-wednesday team meet-up.

I will train with you when

I will train with you when possible but I'm pretty busy nights and weekends through May...

My Scheduel

The next week or so are busy with school/finals, but after that I'll be working full time and done with work by 5 or so. That means I can be at the track by 6 (maybe 5:30) any day during the week. Saturday I'm working all day and Sunday I'm off.

Dick Lane Scheduel:
Monday: Advanced Training
Tuesday: Beginners/Pursuits
Wednesday: Races
Thursday: Beginner Track Classes

So not many days during the week to choose from.

FM Team training night

It looks like the best night might actually be Mondays. Here is the DLV Schedule:
Mondays: "Advanced Training" @7:30
Tuesdays: Womens/Masters/Beginners alternating with Pursuits
Wednesdays: Weekly training races
Thursdays: Beginner classes
Fridays: Friday Night Sprints

We could meet as a team at 6:30, ride together for a bit, then jump into the advanced training.

I would rather we dont let track training conflict with the FM MTB team, which is busy all weekend.

griggey's picture

sounds good to me

Mondays at 6:30 work for me. I'm not up to the "advanced training" level yet, but I should be up there before 6:30 so it'll be a solid workout. I'll bring my track stuff with me to work and when I get off, I'll hop on MARTA and get there when I get there.

FYI: There's a class system

FYI: There's a class system (tic) in place at the Velodrome and Pete's beloved Bicycle Little League owns the track Mondays and Thursdays before advanced training, etc. so ... reschedule/bummer.

Last year we did this sort of thing Sundays at 5pm because of all the conflicts, but really you don't need to ride much at the track itself. Just get a road bike and clock lots of miles(nts). Everybody should keep in mind that Wednesdays are themselves just training. js.

OR break your collarbone and

OR break your collarbone and do 200+ miles a week on a trainer. I have trainer parties where we watch the TdF from last year on the big screen. Nobody (Cept X once or twice) ever comes! (Call me.)

.

extra trainer?

me no have. Heck, I'm

me no have. Heck, I'm surprised my $70 one from performance hacked to allow the track bike (narrow hub) hasn't exploded yet.

I bet some people have ones they aren't using. And craigslist has options.

Event posted for tomorrow. (But i do this every day, so srsly, just call me a day in advance)

griggey's picture

I have one

I don't ever use mine so I can take it to ckdake's for others to use.

.

That'd be awesome. But I somehow forgot that people were constantly unloading expensive bike gear for cheap on Craigslist.

I'm not discouraging you from taking your trainer to CK's house, just saying that I'll pursue other options.

just saying

Training at the track as the team would be valuable to strategies and working on particular skills. Although you are correct in your assessment of road training as being valuable, it is not sufficient.

As a team, we feel that training at the track would be profitable.

I want to

But I may just be too busy to train. I have a regular conflict on Monday and Wednesday nights, Tuesday nights would be races. I'll be done teaching in another month and will be able to block out some weekday daytime for track training. But I may be stuck before then.

With the Monday/Thursday Night conflict noted...

We could actually do some Saturdays. Most of our MTB races are on Sundays, so a nice medium day at the track would be cool. Greg, do you work all day Saturday or could you tuck in a couple hours at the track?

griggey's picture

Hmmm....

I do work Saturdays, but if we decide to do Saturdays, then I can see if Bob will let me switch to Sundays.

Sundays

Sundays work best for me also.

I'm all for adding another day in.

Saturdays

Right now, Saturday is the best day for me. Once summer semester starts, Monday will open for me as well.

griggey's picture

Sundays

After looking at my planner, I can't switch to Sundays until towards the end of May because of other commitments (Bro's wedding and Mother's day). After mother's day, I'll either try to change days or I may just leave all together depending on how I'm doing with money.

G.reg...

I think I saw your new bike at school. Is it a black Soma with a white fork?

griggey's picture

yep

yep

If you you are looking to

If you you are looking to get comfortable on the track with the team then definitely get out there. Practice pacelines and whistle sprints etc. But these are things you are going to do on the Monday night "advanced" training anyway. If you guys show up as a team on Monday nights you'll get the time on the track and the benefit of some guidance from Wayne. If you need more, plan some FM team road rides.

kurt's picture

Yeah

I think this is the best idea.

also.

every other Tuesday night is pursuit racing with team events. really good practice - and i'm sure they would allow you to team up.

the team time trials are fun!

darn

I wish I could have gone last night, but I had to pretend to be working a paper.

I'll be down at the track on

I'll be down at the track on Sunday on 4/27 @9:00am for some training. I will have raced in Athens the day before but would like to see the TdG so I need to get that intensity in for the weekend.
