Faster Mustache 3 year Birthday Party and Race Team Fund Raiser - Discussion

kurt's picture

This is the bicycle party of the year. If you don't know, ask about 03.04.06. Or about FM2.0. And then forget what you hear, because this is going to blow that away.

Lets combine this race with WonderRoot's Grand opening Race

Hi.

I started a non-profit community arts center a few years ago with two good friends. We are holding our grand opening party on the 31st of may. Our community arts center holds a Dark Room, Recording Studio and Digital Media Lab as well as a performance space. Additionally, we were planning a bike race to precursor the party. I have got RELoad, Cadence, and SOPO behind the idea. The details are still getting worked out, but it should be a good time.

What do you think about combining the races?

Location

Hey, have we nailed down a location for this here shindig?

kurt's picture

Yup, Lenny's.

Sorry I haven't been forthcoming with the details (trying to get em all nailed down). Its all updated on the event page now.

X-topher's picture

door man/woman

I am hereby signing up to be the doorman for the SECOND half of the party (10pm-3am). I could also help with the first half but I will have to dip out for the race.

Does anyone else want to volunteer for this? Must be able to count and must be sober enough to identify tomfoolery.

How much?

What's the cover charge going to be?

kurt's picture

But I can tell you how to catch a break on the cover: Grow a Mustache.

racing in lenny's

weird question, but usually lenny's is filled with a pretty dense fog of smoke. is this going to be an obstacle or is there some way keep people from smoking until races are over? just curious..maybe you've already worked this out.

good point. I hate smoke,

good point. I hate smoke, but if there was any last year it didn't affect the tricycle race.

foggy.

there was definitely a dense fog of something during the tricycle race. not sure if smoke had anything to do with it, but i was having a real hard time seeing straight. possibly the hardest and most fun race of last year!

It's just GoldSprints... the

It's just GoldSprints... the races are normally done in under one minute (ie. 500 meters on the rollers).

The couple of times I've seen this the smoke didn't affect the sprinter... the alcohol consumption done that night yes, the smoke no.

GoldSprints details and fogginess

The details about the GoldSprints event are posted here.

About the smokiness: Lenny's is installing two new air conditioners THIS WEEK and we also are setting up an outdoor patio. We will encourage party goers to smoke outside all night long.

That all being said, we don't have the resources to ban smoking inside entirely and it will probably be a little bit smokey.

Saw some FMers at EAYC this

Saw some FMers at EAYC this past Friday night. One (in their midst) had a mustache. I have thought about growing one, but I'm having trouble getting up the courage. (Seriously...) Not sure I can endure the askance glances. I guess ... I guess I'm going on record: I'm not brave enough to be mustachioed. But I'll be there just the same. MP

Are we using full on rollers

Are we using full on rollers (front and back wheel)?

Teh Black Hole's picture

Goldsprints... the front

Goldsprints... the front wheel will be attached to a fork mount.

Not roller races. As much as I like some bicycle accident hilarity... we won't be having any of this.

even more fun

kurt's picture

hahahahahahah

emo bars and rollers don't mix!

Why the hell was he all decked out in his urban hipster gear just to ride on rollers?

It's not a costume. It's a lifestyle!

Mustache Rules!

Here are the mustache rules! You must follow these rules to get the discount at the door!

Men: mustaches must be real, grown from your own face!
Women: mustaches don't have to be real but must be worn throughout the night!
No islands, flavor savors, womb brooms, go-tees, or beards! Mustaches can be connected to side burns but no chin hair! Chins must be shorn!!

I will be the final judge of whether you are wearing a mustache or not.

We reserve the right to reject the discount to anyone for anything, especially for bad atitudes!

Thanks, and get growning!

Teh Black Hole's picture

I think I'm going to put this on a t-shirt

dude

do I need to remind you?!?

This conversation is taking place here and I believe your soul patch bigotry has been completely annihilated.

TimothyJ's picture

Do women get extra discounts

Do women get extra discounts if the mustache is real?

X-topher's picture

yes...

provided the person in question has always been a woman, and they are sporting a sufficient mustache, they get in free.

goldsprints

i don't know if i'm going to go to this because honestly it sounds like a dude-fest...

but out of curiosity, what is the "scientifically calibrated handicap" for the ladies?

on that note, but not really

why are they starting so early? is it because of the bands??

.

.

kurt's picture

handicap

We will be recording races on our GoldSprints contraption between men and women that ride at the same competitive level. After we get 10 or so races recorded, we will determine the average spread between men and women. We will use this number to come up with a fair multiplier value that will be applied to the less-quick gender (presumably women but we will let science determine that).

Since output and performance are filtered through the computer and displayed real time while racers spin, we can add in this multiplier/handicap in real time and women can therefore race head to head with men for the same prize.

GoldSprints is different than typical sprinting because there is very little resistance. It is all about holding a super-high cadence for the duration of a very fast race. We don't actually know if men can spin faster than women, but this will allow us to find out.

What exactly makes this sound like a dudefest?

Teh Black Hole's picture

Trust me on this Connie,

Trust me on this Connie, this is the most math I've done since my final year at drinking school (aka Kennesaw State). This handicap will be the most precise way we have leveled the playing field to date.

Like Kurt has already said, there is little to no resistance when on the rollers, and Goldsprints really come down to cadence. Using my stopwatch and my eyes yesterday at the track, it looks like the difference in cadence is very, very, very small between the sexes (like 3 to 5 rpm)... and this is on the track, where there is resistance (ie. wind). So the results I got at the track, while helpful, are not going to be the absolute in determining the handicap.

We would really like a couple of girls to show up early (4:30???) to do a couple of short 200m sprints on the rollers so we have as much data as possible to calculate this handicap.

kurt's picture

you want a bunch of girls to show up early?

So that you can calculate a handicap, so that women have a fair chance at winning the top prize and racing head to head against the men? Instead of creating a separate category with inferior prizes and earlier showtimes like every other race?

This sounds like a major blowhard dudefest cock party.

X-topher's picture

i'm bringing my cock

dude

Alex's picture

Feel free to bring it

but remember, it is all about cadence.

Oh Ho ho

Tobias,

You blowhard!

Musical awesomeness! :'-(

pwnela's picture

What's the schedule for the music? Does it start straightaway?

Dfunk's picture

the sprints start at 6.... (?)

kurt's picture

Yup

Every registered racer will ned to do a qualifier time trial on the contraption, then we have the first (and largest) round of heats.

whitney's picture

thanks everybody!

this was a great way to round out lasch history. party hard!
