FM Mountain Bike Team: Recruitment Drive

X-topher's picture

The Faster Mustache Mountain Bike Team needs you!

Do you like to ride hard from a cold start?
Do you like to wash your tacquitos down with water from your moldy camelbak tube?
Do you like to put her up wet?

If you answered yes to all those questions, you should consider racing this season on the FM Mountain Bike Team! We will be racing in the Georgia State Championship circuit (www.goneriding.com) and a handful of other races like 24 hours of conyers, etc. We currently have three brave men on the roster but we would love to have 2 or 3 more men/women on the team. Please email me if you are interested: christopher AT fastermustache DOT org.

See you on the trails!

Do you have room for people

Do you have room for people who enjoy finishing DFL, but then like to knock back a half dozen cold ones in a celebratory gesture?

X-topher's picture

for sure

Seth, you would not necessarily finish DFL. It depends on the class you race in and you might qualify for the clydesdale class at some races (200lbs or more).

The GSC #1 race yesterday had riders of all skill levels, includinig some pro/semi pro riders. I raced the sport catetory and finished middle of the pack.

August 3 - GSC #8 - Pig Trail in Macon, GA
August 16 - Fools Gold 50/100 mile - Dahlonega, GA
Offroad Assault on Mount Mitchell - TBA

How many of these you ride is up to you. Hopefully as a team member you will want to race all of them but its more realistic to try and race between 8-10.

how many and how old?

I USUALLY LOOK ON YOUR SITE FOR RIDE INFO, BUT I AM AN OLD GUY OF 35, SO I DONT USUALYY MAKE A COMMENT, SO HOW OLD AND HOW MANY WOULD BE OK?
WOULD LIKE TO RUN AS MANY AS I COULD, BUT DONT KNOW IF IT WOULD BE COOL, OLD. I USUALLY RUN THE BULL ON THE WEEKENDS WITH FRIENDS. SO PROBABLY WOULDNT BE DFL, BUT, MAYBE CLOSE. :)!

X-topher's picture

30-39

They split up the categories by age and skill. You would ride in the 30-39 group. 35 years is not old. Not only is 30-39 sometimes the most competitive category, it is usually the largest category, too.

DO YOU GUYS EVER GO LIKE TO

DO YOU GUYS EVER GO LIKE TO SOPE CREEK OR DO AN URBAN THING THROUGH THE WEEK? BEEN TO LOTS OF RACES, BUT WASNT SURE OF YOUR GUYS AGE GROUP? EITHER WAY IF THERE IS A DAY THAT YOU ARE GONNA GO RIDE, ID LOVE TO. DONT GET OFF WORK UNTIL 6 BUT AFTER...... AND THE WEEKENDS ARE CLEAR MOSTLY.

Sope Creek

Sounds like we have similar schedules. I work near Sope Creek. Do you want to do a nite/evening ride after work sometime?

Cool

Love to, let me know a day or two early, if you can and I could meet you at a reasonable time.

durkie's picture

i want to do it

things are weird in life right now though. i can't do races 2, 3, or 4 anyways though...

when do you need to know by?

X-topher's picture

you NEED to do it

craig, what is your email addy? We can discuss your particular life weirdness offline and see what will work for you.

Anyway, we would like to get some peeps on board as soon as possible so you can start competing with us but there is no deadline.

Is there anything we can do to make 2,3,4 work for you? Are you going to be out of town?

selector23's picture

can't be part...

I can't be part of the team, but I just want to big up the FM squad for supporting the off road scene. Maximum respect.

kurt's picture

little or lesser known fact

Faster Mustache started as a Mountain Biking group (no girls allowed, haha!)

X you forgot the most important qualification!!!

All applicants MUST either be able to:

OR

Austin is riding the

Austin is riding the GSC/SERC events with the APB team.

rosters

i think teams typically put together that year's roster before the season actually starts :) APB's recruitment drive was back in December.

i still want to earn my FM - Mountain patch!!

*funny - APB didn't even register as a team for the series because none of us wanted to fork over the $50 (total). cheap bastards.

X-topher's picture

yeah man

I think we are gonna need you for the endurance events~

kurt's picture

hell yeah

the enduro squad! We need one more rider...

gabriel's picture

If my cross bike is legal

sign me up!

Adogger's picture

I think it would be legal

but I wouldn't recommend a cross bike for most of the trails we ride. They can beat the shit out of you even riding a full suspension.

any thoughts on an FM track

any thoughts on an FM track team?

ckdake's picture

it's on. i think greg is gonna do it. get you a jersey, commit to 10 races, and FM pays your entry fees.

wow crazy.

wow crazy.

griggey's picture

oh that's perfect

they're just lightening you up... taking out unnecessary material so when you get on your bike, that leg'll be faster.

?

is the washer a problem?

Teh Black Hole's picture

At least it's not a set of

yeah, it could always be

yeah, it could always be worse...

forgetting the washer is mostly just embarrassing for the doc. it shouldn't cause any problems (got a 2nd opinion to make sure), but time will tell.

all in all, pain level is much lower than before, and range of motion is much greater.

Teh Black Hole's picture

DIY

I have anecdotal evidence of bits of glass and bone fragments working their way to the surface from past impact wounds... who knows, one day you may be able to excise the washer yourself.
