Chattanooga 3 state/3 mountain century

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do this. 3 moderate climbs over 100 miles seems way more doable than blowing up over 6 gap. All of the climbs seem pretty short/moderate in that the 'toughest' one is only ~2.5 miles long at like 8%-10% grade. The 'long' climb is only 5 miles at 5%.

Linda and I will ride this.

Linda and I will ride this. It's fast in the valleys and descents. The toughtest climb, Burkhalter Gap, comes sort of late in the ride and will get you. Well supported event. Some of the nicest descents in the southeast.

This sounds pretty sweet.

This sounds pretty sweet. Hmmmmmmmmm.

.

ok, I just registered. Y'all need to beard up and get on this.

Other than that, I'm going up to N. GA this weekend and riding the front three gaps if anyone wants in.

This sounds awesome

The FM MTB squad is riding Dirt Sweat and Gears this weekend, also in Tennessee. Its a 12 hour mountain bike race. So i guess the theme is, FM'ers bearding up and going all out in Tennessee! Represent!

Tom and Paul, what low gears

Tom and Paul, what low gears do you expect to use on this ride? I'm trying to decide on what size freewheel to get for the mountains.

.

I run wider tires, so my 34/25 gives me a gearing of 36.4 gear inches or 2.9 meters development.

I find this to be perfectly suitable for 3 Gap (Neels/Wolfpen/Woody), but I need something significantly smaller if I'm going to go up Hogpen again without seeing spots at the top.

The climbs of the up coming ride don't appear to be anything like Hogpen, though.

Oh yeah, I plan on getting a 28 in the back if I ever get the chance.

30:25

A 30/42/53 chainwheel and 12/25 cassette combo gets me over everything.
