Me need new bike...

radrice's picture

Hello. I'm relatively new to ATL and I've been riding a schwinn retread that's too small and is literally disintegrating with every ride. So I need a new bike.

I'm basically looking for a single-speed road bike that will handle a small rack and a pannier (I'm a grad student at tech and usually laden with delicious books) and that will take me 6 miles r/t daily. I tried out an SE lager and really dug it, but don't know if it's worth the $450...

My question(s) then, to all y'all mustaches: is that bike worth it? Are there any other bikes comparable (or lower!) in price that I should be considering? I'm 6'1" and mildly handsome if that makes any diff. Any advice is more than welcomed.

And I apologize for encouraging mustaches to hit eachother with jerky at "The Pick Up Artist Party."

Love,
adam.

If you are buying it from Skate Escape....

It is worth every penny.

If you are savvy with tools and can take your time (and have TONS of patience), Sopo is great place to put together something from spare parts.

that's where I tested it.

that's where I tested it. Performance has them for 360, and their warehouse is out of stock. blah. blah. I really do prefer to go local on major purchases. But I also like to pay rent and eat meals of food.

My O.G. plan was to put a bike together this spring, but school is demanding and my P.O.S. bike isn't really holding up as well as I thought it would.

450

$450 is real reasonable for a bike. I found the lager to $520 on the web. Try to get fenders at 1/2 off or something at Skate Escape...think of the time you'll save and other conveniences you'll have

Specialized Langsters at outback should be in that price range, only thing about langster is the aluminum frame.

For a commuter, go with steel.

.

Aluminum doesn't rust. Why is steel better for an all weather rider?

Jeff's picture

Duh

because if the frame breaks on Edgewood you can have Martin Welding fix it.

.

welders can't work with aluminum? how'd the damn thing get built? ;)

i would love to be the product designer on that project. It looks like it is currently being made from a dowel and a hunk of yellow modeling foam.

Adam, did you really expect

Adam, did you really expect a $5 bike from the broom closet at AVX to hold up on a daily commute down Peachtree?! Silly boy. And the jerky slapping was weirdly awesome.

And it's pretty bangin'. Granted my other bike was literally a $5 retread and totally doo-doo, but I really think it's the bike for me.
