Sign up for events! Thats right. If theres an event created from now on, you can RSVP for it. confirmation/reminder email support, etc. Just look for the button on the event page. Third option?
AT the risk of sounding like a "flip-flopper," I want to suggest that we introduce a shade if gray into the RSVP scheme. Could we have a "maybe" sign-up option? I bet people are not signing up because they're not sure and they don't want to give a definite yes.

That said, it would require a bit of work to do this as the signup module doesn't support this.
(And personnally, I don't care if people are "maybe" going to show up. Commit to being there or don't, imagine hosting a ride with 5 maybes and no yess. One might cancel, where as 1 yes and only 1 yes means it's on. People shouldn't be afraid of a little commitment :))

p.s. i disabled the "signup confirmation" email. You'll no longer get an email when you sign up for something, but you will get an email 24 hours prior to the event start to remind you.
