SO yeah. Things are different. There are a lot of blocks on the right now, you can turn most of them off from your account settings if you like. Want something on the front page? I'll promote things as I see fit, if you want something on the front just mention it and I'll think about it. (Other people will be able to do this in the future, and there will be some neat community ways to get things up front)
Before/After big events, etc, if you want to take up your journalistic skills, PLEASE DO! Write something about it, submit it as a story, and those will go into a queue for the front page. Right now comments are off, I can enable them on a per-story basis or for all of them if you like. Thoughts?
(I'm not quite done with the blocks and all yet, but it's gettin there..)

yea
allright, let's all try it out
IMO, there should be two discussion categories: bikes and non-bikes
non bike stuff goes here, i
non bike stuff goes here, i believe:

faster mustache is "a" progressive, not "an" progressive...
i think.
but i go to georgia tech and, allegedly, can't spell.

i go to georgia tech and can't spell. Fixed!
I think "progressive" is
I think "progressive" is just redundant verbiage. What "movement" doesnt consider themselves progressive? I dare say none.
I do like Roger's category idea, because taxonomies are alot harder than people realize.
"Online and on the road, at
"Online and on the road, at work or at play, we challenge everyone to use a bike, fixed or free, geared or single, cruiser, chopper, racer, clunker, and ride 'em."
"we challenge everyone to use a bike... and ride 'em"-- redundent.
Try this: Online and on the road, at work or at play, we challenge everyone to use a bike. Whether fixed or free, geared or single, cruiser, chopper, racer or clunker, we ride 'em.
good catch. updated.

nicely done!
the lay out looks great!
sweet
Now I can spend ALL of my day on this site. theonion.com is truly suffering now.
logo treatment
Graphic comments:
Inverse the cog to white... it looks like a fat mole on the front page now... then make the "FM" in red.
Then keep "Faster Mustache" in white but lets test it with out the drop shadow.
Finally, lets talk about kerning:
In "FASTER", push the A and the S +5 or so (not much)... then tighten the E and the R.
Now with "MUSTACHE", tighten the M and the U... then push the U and the S a little and then push the S and the T too. The S looks crapped in its space.
As of that... that should clean it up some. I can't say anything else until the adjustments. Now if you are confused or just don't care... send me the file and I will happily make the adjustments. Little details that I believe are necessary that scream towards me.
If you do not have the original copy... I could easily pull that type. It resembles Futura Heavy Italics... yes?
fredo the kerning ninja
- you have busted me out and now i will go fix0rize it. Thanks for the tips. And its Futura Extra Black Italic. Geez.
what i miss
there used to be a link at the bottom of the front page that said next and took me to the next page of forum posts...that no longer exists, and it makes me a sad panda. /southpark quote
Thats because theres not
Thats because theres not enough stuff thats been promoted to the front page to have a page 2 yet. All forum topics are no longer promoted to the front page.
oh, that really makes me sad
oh, that really makes me sad then lol, i'm too lazy to browse through the forum
theres plenty of other ways
theres plenty of other ways to read. RSS feeds, the recent posts tracker, the "New stuff" block if you're a member, the "recent topics" block if you're not, etc.
The Vision (Statement) Thing
Just some thoughts... I'm sort of a residual FM type. I do CM. I think fixies are novel. I really love the fixed gear gallery. Blah, blah... (I'm really a roadie and ride with the Aaron's crew. I've always been a squid and won't deny that. Speed is important to me, as are gears.) But I really think that FM is doing a sh*tload of good in our city. I think the new "vision statement" (or use whatever business buzzword is au courant) is a stroke of genius. This city is a basket case of sprawl, bad air, and bad planning. So all of us who are riding bikes are doing way more than just having fun. We're pioneers for a better future framework in this crazy auto-centric urban grid. Until public transit (and other similiar collective solutions) are seriously considered, bikes really are the solution. So, my friends, have fun, by all means. But realize that you're building something that's wonderfully positive -- and I'm not just tawkin' 'bout your community. The more two-wheelers there are, the more people see us, the more these toxic-obsese sedentary types will consider the freedom that bikes allow for. So for your movement and for your mission/vision/mantra statement, I salute you! MP
Thanks! Lots of people put
Thanks! Lots of people put a lot more thought and time than they probably should have into that new statement and it's good to know someone sees FM as the force for change that some of us like to think it could be!
Just a question... do you
Just a question... do you commute up Marietta St towards Tech every morning? I see a rider in Aaron's team kit sometimes and really feel for him, cause he's flying and cars and peds really mis-judge how fast he's going.
It Ain't Me, Babe
No, that's not me. Some other Aaron's type, I 'spose. I commute from Inman Park to Grant Park on my Cad 4 canary yellow Cannondale. (I badly need a beater...) My route (which includes the mysterious Krog Street Tunnel) forces me to take Carroll Street, by far and away the most pock-marked street in the ATL. It's like the Paris-Roubaix race, the queen of the springtime Classics. MP
swap
swap 'weather' where 'new events' are
(having 'new events' and 'upcoming events' at the top is overkill)
New Events Box
can past events be removed automatically from the 'New Events' Box. right now, all of those events happend last week. (or just replace it w/ the weather)
this is not about the
this is not about the frontpage, but the tracker page.
Could you please change the format of the "Last Post" column to show the absolute real time and not a measurement of how long ago, because of caching the current number is basically meaningless.
