We talked a bit about this. Who wants to head down to the track late Sunday afternoon for some riding? Anyone remember the timing details for how early we could start on Sunday? The plan is to take Sunday night as ours every week.. Thoughts?
It's on. I'm gonna MARTA down there due to secretweaponness.
Brian will be there on Sunday before 5pm and let people use the house track bikes, so get there early if you want to!
time:
03/25/2007 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Location:
Dick Lane Velodrome

I thought this would start
I thought this would start next sunday and our time would be between say 5pm and 7pm. I was/am not planning to go tonite, but will next week.

Haha. I never even looked
Haha.
I never even looked at that, just read the sentences. I'm super wasted today, that wind yesterday was killer. Only able to do 11mph on flat straight aways cuz of the 25-30mph headwind. insane.
ouch, I hurt.
OT: apparently your new fuji track pro is put together, does it still weight only 12.4 lbs?
It's can't be fully put
It's can't be fully put together because i have a box of parts in front of me on my desk. But when fully assembled, yes, it will not weigh very much.
Yes, this is the plan.
Yes, this is the plan. Hopefully my new wheel will be ready by then. If not, does anyone know of a rear wheel I can rent/borrow?
I have a track wheel you can borrow.
if you acknowledge that my kitten is cuter than yours. Do you have cog/lockring?

Yes!
I will be there!
I will be there
I will be there
I will be there eventually.
I will be there eventually. When I get a track bike and have a free Sunday.
eventually on sunday at this
eventually on sunday at this particular event or eventually in general? You could always show up with a camera and do that...
as it stands i have so
as it stands i have so little free time to just sit down and study, do laundry, or sleep. sundays are always my resting nights and i hesitate to completely book them up, so, i say eventually and will likely come out when i feel like it. i do want to get some more shots.
book it as a study session!
book it as a study session! see, you can come to the track and cheer in between rounds of intense concentration on studying!
and dont forget

biking may make you smarter
biking may make you smarter if you substitute things like drinking beer. this i do not do.
i would be there
but i have work. so i gotta find another day i can get over there.
on a related note
does anybody want to head down there on mondays with me for the advanced training sessions? i'm going to email the guy in charge to see what the deal is.
yes
if we're strong enough and if we can use borrowed bikes. otherwise my bike wont be ready for probably another 2 months (atleast).
I think thats Wayne and
I think thats Wayne and Pete's deal. Its pretty intense. From last year, they insist on working in specific gears for parts of the workout, so bring your cogs/tools, etc. This might affect using the house bikes.
There's a timing issue to consider. If we workout on Sunday, do you want to go back to back without any recovery? Also Melissa's womens racing is on Tuesdays, also back to back. And then again on Wednesday?
Let us know how full the deal is and if they're going to be super strict on missing sessions again this year.
I'm not going to do Monday nights for awhile, if at all. We can just borrow their workout plans and modify as desired.
PS. Somebody bring a stopwatch this Sunday. The first thing we must do is get a baseline established.
well
the woman running our clinic yesterday said that we (i.e., the folks who participated with her) could go to the monday night training sessions if we wanted to. that said, i'm up for intense. i haven't trained (like, really trained) for anything in a long time, and i want to get back into that sort of thing.
the reason i am interested in doing the monday workouts is that i can't go on sundays. and even if i could, come on! that's a full day of recovery time! i mean, if you're training, ideally you're training at least a few days a week.
i just thought i'd throw it out there and ask the rest of you... i'll let you know what i find out.
like i said
i'm there. i can't do sundays either and want time on the track. let me know what comes of this.
Greg & Connie
So yesterday, I asked Wayne about you guys borrowing loaner bikes for the Mon. class. He said that's fine, but you'd need to have someone open the bike room for you and get them out. I'd be glad to do that for you guys. After you get the OK on attending to the class, I'll just be sure the get there a little early so you guys can get bikes out. That is all!
you are the best
thank you so much
melissa, you're awesome.
i sent an email to the address on the velodrome website about the monday night classes, but haven't heard anything back yet. i'll let you know if i get the ok to go out there, though.
Connie is way stronger than you know...
as well as the other ladies that attended last weekend's class. Connie and Jenny were feeling especially good and proved they'd have no trouble kicking most of your guy's asses. No offense, just the truth.
As far as the class, Wayne puts on the class for the word, e-mail him at training@dicklanevelodrome.com. I attended last year's class and am participating again this year. I strongly recommend attending if you have any interest in racing at the velodrome or just want an awesome workout. I do not know if you can borrow a loaner bicycle for the class. Ask Wayne.
Usually track workouts are not so intense, that you need days of recovering. It's not a bad idea to get used to training days in a row. The people you race against are training everyday (sometimes twice a day.) There's only rest on Friday. You can miss one Monday night session per month. So you can miss one Monday to race on Tuesday (since it's only one day a month.) If you race and get points Tuesday, train through Wednesday's race or volunteer to help out.
If you guys want I could help you with different training drills on Sunday. Looking forward to having fun training with you guys! I'm not very fast so most of you guys and gals will pass me, but I can show you some drills and stuff!
>Connie and Jenny were
>Connie and Jenny were feeling especially good and proved they'd have no trouble kicking most of your guy's asses.
I'm very glad to hear it. I believe I've been encouraging them to do exactly this for sometime, although moreso Jen. But we shall see on the track!
>There's only rest on Friday.
Huh? Not for sprinters.
Training varys greatly, some just show up and race, others ride alittle and some ride alot at the track. Its mostly about your schedule and your goals.
The womens field was alittle thin last year, but after the last two weekends both C groups will be receiving new blood. It should be a fun year at the track.
Connie, do let us know the status of the Monday night class, and if you do it, what you think of it. tia.
I have not riden much with Connie
so I don't know, but Jenny is a natural. She is hard to keep up with if she wants to lay down the law.
i'm iffy on this. super
i'm iffy on this. super magical new bike will be ready by then but i dunno.
so maybe i'll be there.
you should be there
it will be a lot of fun.
i'm 50%
i have to give a department seminar in just 2 weeks so i'm sorta freaking out about that! but if i work hard, then i'll be there for sure!
powerpoint owns my soul.
sorry, but after spending all yesterday pretending i had no obligations to emory, today i'm chained to the computer. i hope this becomes a regular event, though, because it sounds awesome!
Hope hope by "this," you
Hope hope by "this," you meant riding at the velodrome on Sundays and not being chained to the computer. Because computing instead of pedaling would be sad. Good luck! Don't let the emoroids grind you down!
If you want to borrow a
If you want to borrow a house track bike, please come on down this Sunday. Brian will be there to gain access to the bikes.
The more the merrier, because we need to work on lots of things the least of which is riding in traffic on the track.
CK, can you make this thread a sticky about the hessdog race?
I shall be there
And I will need to borrow a house bike.
unfortunately, i have dinner
unfortunately, i have dinner plans and will not be able to attend this. i will however be down there earlier in the day. i need to dust my legs off before i come make a fool of myself in front of everyone.
Riding to the track?
Is anybody going to pedal to the track? I need to test my other wheelset on the trek before I start trying to commute on it.
I'm hopping on marta a lil
I'm hopping on marta a lil before 4pm at my house.

Brian commented that we
Brian commented that we should stay relaxed, etc while riding. One thing that I couldn't help but notice in all these pictures: locked elbows. every picture of Brian, bent 'bows. everyone else, straight arm! (except for the funkmeister). but i've been making a conscience effort to bend the elbows since I noticed this.
Practice makes perfect
I concentrated a lot on trying to relax, so I'm glad it payed off a little. It's the same approach I take to tai chi or playing music: Keep everything comfy and relaxed unless and until you need it. The arms are just a guide, right? So forget about them and send the energy to your legs. I still had a deathgrip on the bars a lot of the time though. Just gotta do a mental check now and then to make sure you're relaxed.
I think it's just gonna take time and experience on the track for things to even out. I could feel a definitive difference in my riding between the beginning and the end of our 2-hour practice. I have a feeling a lot of this stuff will become second nature for us all in due time.
wow, good eye. some
wow, good eye.
some pictures are hard to tell from, but your point is well taken. One remedy has to do with bike setup. Most of us never ride in the drops on the street and our setups reflect that. After this last Sunday I decided to flip my stem (ie raise it up) in the future (mostly because my gut is blocking my legs while in the drops) so I'll be interested to see if this helps with relaxing the arms.
PS. A word to the wise, do not underestimate Phil's prowlness on the bike, this guy can pedal like nobody's business.
of course
he's been riding that 30 lbf clunker for how long now? ;)
Good point
I'd been working on getting down in the drops for a while. I guess that kinda puts the chop-n-floppers at a disadvantage.
