Details:
Meet at the trail head near that elementary school and try to start riding by 9:30. This in intended to be a training ride doing >40 miles. Expect a paceline (and with one we should easily be able to avg. 15-16mph for the whole trip). If some want to split off for a shorter and/or slower ride then thats fine.
BRING LOTS OF FOOD AND WATER/SPORTS DRINK.
Carpools right now:
My car: Me, ckdake, peu-shiki
deadcowboymike: him, gong
Let me know if there's anything else I forgot to mention.
Weather: Sunny high of 63 = amazing.
:::::::::EDIT:::::::::

Guess What??
I'm backing out. Your pessimism was mighty effective. Actually I just have an interview. Now someone can have my seat.

dudes, the SCT is seriously
dudes, the SCT is seriously over-crowded on weekends. The paved portion is only as wide as one traffic lane with a divider down the middle of it to partition it into two-way traffic.
If you dont feel like pushing yourself, dont do the whole distance. For example, today I was just blasting in the low 20's mph, so we decided to just do an intensity ride. We averaged 19.5 mph going out for 1 hour, and 19 mph on the way back after a rest break. My quads were burning, but it was a good effort.
If you wanna ride some this weekend, there's a Century going down somewhere nearby, that might be a better option.
Pacelining on SCT is overly optimistic, far too many things going on, ie walkers, runners, dogs, kids, horses and bikes. (and road crossings)
pestimist
we'll do what works. If we can paceline and go a little faster awesome. If we have to break apart and go a little slower: thats ok too. I just want to ride bikes. I'm not stressing over it.
or SBL
Southern Bicycle League has a list of rides happening all the time, and some of them are pretty long.
Tour de Pike, near Concord,
Tour de Pike, near Concord, 8:30 AM. I'm there.

What about
the option of starting a little farther out... that would avoid most of the congestion. Frankly, 50 miles is about the same as 70 except for your ass getting sore. Oh, wait, I just remembered you wear padded panties.
here's the link to the list of trailheads and directions to them: yer mom
are you all really riding @ 9:30 pm?
If you meant 9:30am I'm interested in going. I've never ridden the SCT, and it's about time I found out what it's all about.
A.M. You fail, Gregg.

Kroger has Clif bars and
Kroger has Clif bars and Gatorade 10/10$ this week. I think I blew like 50$ stocking up for Elly and me.
Dude, Clif bars are always 99 cents each at Publix
So you don't have to wait for the sale.
Okay, so like, I actually
Okay, so like, I actually looked at the map and I have no idea what we're doing. Are we meeting at TRAIL MARKER ONE at that link peu-shiki linked? And if so, is the best way to just go to I-20 south, hit I-285 N and then follow the directions as offered?
yeah we'll do that.
Meet at the Marvel Rd one.
as far as taking I-20: its not the best but is the easiest. On second though, it may be the best for you.
google maps it
guesicotti: which is the publix one to start at? i cant find it.
Exit 15 off I-285 is South
Exit 15 off I-285 is South Cobb Drive. You go 1.5 miles or so OTP, until you hit a big intersection. The cross road is known as Cumberland Parkway to the right and East-West Connector to the left.
You take a left, and then get in the right lane. Enter the Publix parking lot about a half a block up on the right. Cant miss it.
Do not park close to the store, park away from the store and close to the road (east-west). Its dead simple, very convenient. Publix has everything ya'll need.
Here's an aerial link from gmaps.
Oh yeah its gonna be cold in the morning, not too late to do the century. js.
that starts at negative milage
thats point 1 on http://www.trailexpress.com/silvercomet/maps.php
i'm not sure how that helps
Huh? Deeply confused. I hope
Huh? Deeply confused. I hope this helps.
Indeed it does start at like -1 miles, but all of us rambling wrecks from Georgia Tech have this secret ability to just add 1 to the mile markers as we go to correct for an accurate distance count. lol.
Seriously it no big deal, its part of the trail, the extension was added because parking at marker Zero fills up quickly, which really sucks for coordinating a ride. ymmv.
ooooh
i thought you sugested it becuase the trail fills up. thats why i was confused. i like the idea of meeting at publix but its such late notice i don't want to change it and mess people up.
Ahh, now I see the light,
Ahh, now I see the light, kinda like Jake and Elwood when they go to the black church with James Brown, in the Blues Brothers. Yeah, I doubt SCT will be crowded @ 40F tomorrow. enjoy.
So wait, are we meeting at
So wait, are we meeting at Publix or Mavell Rd?
Damnit someone just tell me where to go.
Wear something green.
