March CM route considerations
The APD has canceled days off for officers so there will be a strong police presence on the streets.
Routes that have been suggested include riding out to Decatur, Castleberry Hill and Grant Park. These are all great areas to ride in and would probably avoid any unpleasantness with Da Man.
So, think about a route and come tonight prepared to share your ideas with the ride. Should be a great night to ride with a few hundred of your fellow cyclists.
I vote
Decater and onward, at least we should stay on East side or head up to highlands... I don't think going anywhere near tech or down town would be a good idea
Peachtree Street will be
Peachtree Street will be very congested if the last couple of days are an indication of what to expect.
thus
we should so hit that
id tap that.
id tap that.
Places to ride through
Grant Park (usually quiet and peaceful streets, not much interaction though)
10th St/Piedmont (good vibes with all the bar patrons)
Highland (again, lots of good interaction with peds)
I find Atlantic Station kind of lame to take CM through, it's like riding by a mall...
Ponce from Monroe to Peachtree
As far conflicts with Da Man, I think as long as CM stays away from the 'wealthy' parts of town (Buckhead), CM should do just fine. Money talks in this town boy...and it don't want any dang bicycles in the way to getting to the Mall. YMMV
Grant Park currently looks
Grant Park currently looks like it's going through some sort of pollen winter... you should totally ride through, it's creepy as all get out.
Pollenating Fear
Cabbage Town is looking about the same, and you're right, it is creepy. I had to drive somewhere today *gasp shock agony pain* and I got in my car and couldn't see out the windshield. The light coming through the windows is also tinted with a yellowish green.... I feel like I should be in Silent Hill but there are no dead and headless nurses, and my radio is broken.
All I'm gonna say is stay
All I'm gonna say is stay outta Midtown, cuz the wordz on da streetz is dat dems boyz in blue iz lookin' 4 us.
Seriously, Midtown Alliance or whatever the fuck they call themselves has a bone up the you-know-what about CM and is getting ready to mess with the mass.
Decatur and back is about 10-12 miles, especially if we loop thru Castleberry. I say we bomb Ptree north til dat Fishbowl thingie, then south past Castleberry and then to Decatur, via Grant Park, East Atlanta and Oakhurst.
maybe, maybe not. yminomc.
keep in mind.....
midtown alliance cops can't technically pull you over, for real. If they tell you to stop, pretend like you can't even see or hear them.
an officer in a non-patrol
an officer in a non-patrol car cannot pull you over for traffic violations. an officer on foot, or on a motorcycle, or bicycle CAN. Cops are cops, just because they are being paid by midtown alliance at the time does not make them not cops. disobey them at your own peril.
killgore is my god
and i'm going with him - i don't even believe midtown blue exists since I've never seen or heard one. :)
not believing in gravity won't allow you to fly.
close your eyes if you want, all you'll do is crash.
regardless of what you believe, if a police officer wants to arrest you, you WILL go to jail and probably spend friday night in jail with a bunch of drunk basketball fans and concert goers.
cost-benefit analysis.
gotta catch me first
and chances are if a police officer is on foot or bike, they won't.
dudes, i'm kidding, I won't even be at critical mass. have fun getting arrested or not getting arrested or whatever. :)
"can't outrun Motorola"
"can't outrun Motorola"
sucks, we were counting on
sucks, we were counting on you for an escape route:(
I know that I'm going against the "spirit" of critical mass here
but I'd wouldn't mind seeing one CM where riders are only two abreast in the right lane and also get split up by lights. Perfectly legal. Almost the same visibility. Longer mass. Those who say it's more dangerous to do CM that way- bullshit. We ride two abreast down Peachtree all the time in group rides. It's as safe as it's going to get on a road with cars and it will assure a higher probability of no police interference. Just a suggestion to think about.
And to clarify my previous suggestion
Not every CM should be that way, but perhaps a new strategy would make it more effective. I mean, how will you know if you don't try? We are basically copying a cut-paste formula for CM (granted every city has it's unique version of that formula) - but perhaps something else could work better.
How could you get everyone to agree?
Even if you get the majority of the mob to agree to ride 2 abreast at the beginning, it takes only one person to break that.
who cares if one or more
who cares if one or more people break out of it as long as the majority ride two abreast?
I'm just sayin'
Don't expect everyone to go along with it, no matter how good your arguments are.
Hey what happened to you and
Hey what happened to you and Mike tonite? you guys get everything straightened out?
Yea
My chain slipped. Luckily, Ckdake was nearby and fix0red her real quick. We had no idea where you guys went or how to contact you, so I rode home.
Cool its fixed. Hmmm,
Cool its fixed.
Hmmm, tactfully blaming us. Hmmm, Cody, have you considered taking a position in MGT? rotf. lol. tic.
sorry.
hah
Lol. I told everyone to go ahead and that we would catch up, but there was no catching up. I hope the ride was as enjoyable as mine!
This idea has been tossed around a bunch
but it's always been rejected on the grounds that it would be impossible to enforce.
Respectfully disagree
I think it's possible.
Then I say go for it!
You're invited!
Getting stuck in
a tradition of resisting change is what will make CM a very ineffective way of promoting cyclists.
Fishbowl thingie?
Fishbowl thingie?

I thought you might have
I thought you might have meant that, but it's not on Peachtree, and it's near where Final Four is happening.
i'm all for bombing
i'm all for bombing peachtree, but I don't think CM is the right time for that.
about atlantic station
atlantic station is PRIVATE property. the roads are not public other than 17th street (i think). different rules apply. always be careful on private property.
