Surprise Checkpoints
Have one every once in a while. That may take care of cheaters.
like have someone covered in
like have someone covered in LEDs waving a big orange safety banner yelling at bikers to stop and get their cards punched floating about?. sounds a little too SMB3 to me.
super mario bros 3?
super mario bros 3?
yeah, the 'oh shit i'm a
yeah, the 'oh shit i'm a loser and i couldn't beat the airship on the first try and now i have to chase it all over the damn world' aspect of it anyway.
what if
we carried anchors in our inventory?
i'm sure as shit gonna need a star for this race.
Tanooki suit so I can turn
Tanooki suit so I can turn into an invincible statue when I inevitably go flying off my bike.
sadly, not the 'oh shit i'm
sadly, not the 'oh shit i'm a giant shoe and i am UNSTOPPABLE' aspect, which was the best aspect.
I was think more of
someone wearing a pink feather boa and carrying a purple poodle lip stamping the punchcards with bright red lipstick.
Or if we go boring with a regular punch card, and a large sign, that would work too.
let's hire baton bob to do
let's hire baton bob to do this job for us.
You know...
I bet he would do it too?
Hell yeah he'll do it, he's
Hell yeah he'll do it, he's a retired lawyer.
like i said before
i personally don't really care about cheaters - karma and good sleep and all that bullshit... it was brought up so i thought i'd ask.
speaking of charity - i could see the red cross bidding pretty high. they could really speed up their blood drives if they just punch a tree shaped hole through the wrist of donors.
I agree. We should take
I agree. We should take certain precautions to curb cheating, but we should base the route on what we *want* people to do, what *we* want to do, not on how we think people will cheat.
uniqueness?
there was mention last night of getting very unique hole punchers which would be hard to duplicate on short notice (cheat proof). if the hills race and 24hr event use the same equip with several weeks between them... would the uniqueness factor be eliminated? i think the hills race will need several more punchers than the 5 - 6 needed for 24hr so maybe riders just won't know which ones will be reused.
Lets not succomb to *too*
Lets not succomb to *too* much paranoia.
How can we not, we're
How can we not, we're Americans.
maybe we should get fresh
maybe we should get fresh ones and then auction them off at the end for charitable causes?
sopo and punching holes
actually i posted that we can talk about it. i don't think i said "borrow."
Yesterday it was said that
Sharing cost was mentioned, but yesterday it was said that you had already purchased the # you want. Is this true?
Why doesn't FM just cover
Why doesn't FM just cover half the Sopo punching cost. We can assume the two groups won't have events at the same time, so we can just share the system.
It case of a tie, Sopo wins, because they bought the system, and because they'll be responsible for storage, etc.
Sounds sensible

Meeting Minutes
People: Roger, Scott, Adrian, Brent, Donald, Eoin, Mindy, Justin, Nicki, Christopher, Sharon, Molly, E.Austin, Dfunkman,
-Christopher mentioned he can get a custom punching system for about $100
-Dfunkman mentioned Sopo [edit] will talk about letting us borrow their punching system for lap tracking [/edit]
-we discussed the route, Donald mentioned a checkpoint based versus a specific route, a checkpoint based route means you get to the next checkpoint everway you want
-Christopher has more detail on some critiques of Stephanie's route and suggested checkpoints, final vote will probably be at THIS Wednesday night ride (see http://fastermustache.org/node/2027#new)
-FINAL: 2 categories: 1 man solo team and then teams of 4-6 people
-our estimate for # of participants is 60-80 people
-We need a GaTech and Emory coordinator to spread the word on campus
-We're thinking for registration, it'll be $10 pre-register and then $15 the day of the race
Estimated Expenses: Shirts (seperate from reg. $), Bands (snowden and another one), Johnny's (do we need to pay them for anything?), lap tracking system, soccer horns (?)
-we need a standard 'thank you' to businesses who give us prizes (letter w/ photo of winner and their prize)
-Bike parking: only 1 bike rack out front, we can get 1 more bike rack for race, need to check with Johnny's if we can have all of back patio during the race (I'll check with Stephanie and Dawn on this)
-End-
update on Johnny's
Stephanie said Johnny's will let us have the parking lot and then the patio after hours. And band in the parking lot. What time would we want the band to play? Noise ordinance?
Alex, can you help with the waiver/legal/disclaimer stuff?
i have a universal waiver
i have a universal waiver that our club used in TN for its rides/races. i will e-mail you a copy. it's been looked over by a lawyer and is fine!
I can't
sorry... bar/firm issues.
Sharon's Birthday!!!
Today is Sharon's 25th birthday. Show up a little early for birthday celebrations and tasty treats! Sorry, birthday girl is not vegan so neither are the treats.
excellent! it's always nice
excellent! it's always nice to see someone who respects their position on the food chain. God gave us dominion over the animals for a reason: they're tasty dammit!
until animals have enough sense to wear clothes and act like humans to gain PROPER respect, i will continue to treat them as my tastebuds demand. (why do you think my cat wears shirts? not cause it's cute... cause it's smart see?!)
I like to say "when animals
I like to say "when animals start using artifical weapons to defend themselves"... ie. knives and guns or freakin laser beams, then I'll stop eating them... maybe.
Ah, That Explains...
The Homer-Simpson-sized chomp scar on kitty's left haunch. The cat forgets to dress up once he's relegated to the snackfood category.
mmmm cat sandwich....
mmmm cat sandwich....
you know
i love it when someone has an anti-hipster opinion and actually has more reason to their reasoning than some like, "well, uh... meat it murder!"
also, anyone who is veggie/vegan should just accept that food is not going to go their way a majority of the time since they don't eat like a majority of people do.
furthermore, i hate PETA.
Awesome
Victor, that was an awesome post. People who do what they do because they believe in it and don't try to proseletize the masses get high-fives from me. Just for that, I may have to make up a batch of vegan anzac biscuits (In Australia, biscuit=cookie) just for you. You gonna be there tonight?
[edit] Crap! There's no fake butter in the house! I'll have a present for you at CM. [edit]
i might
i have a huge homework assignment tomrorow, but johnny's is right down teh street...
i hope theyre meaty!
i hope theyre meaty!
Random thought:
The second calendar day of the race, Nov 5, is Guy Fawkes Day. Perhaps it'd be cool to incorporate this into thematic-type stuff. We can talk tomorrow.
But none of us are British.
But none of us are British.
word
i'll save children, but not teh british children
Crap.
No go for tonight.
What was decided?
