FM2406 - Spectating

I know there are a million other aspects of the relay more important but I've been thinking about ideas to get people excited about watching the relay. I've come up with some ideas:

1.) The current rider of the team that is currently winning will wear a yellow (or some other color) arm band so that people spectating around the city will know who's winning and be able to cheer for him/her. All other riders on the lead lap will have another color arm band. This other arm band shouldn't start until a couple hours into the race, otherwise everyone would start with one and we don't want to make/buy 20+ arm bands.

2.) If we don't have some electronic tracking which can be linked to a real-time stat server, we should at least have a 15 minute updated blog w/ basic "analog" stats. It would be cool if spectators could access this blog from wireless hotspot cafes/restaurants/places w/ outside seating. We could tie in the sponsorship real easily this way: "Come to our restaurant/bar and watch the race and get semi-realtime web updates as you eat/drink."

3.) Team colored jerseys/shirts. My team is trying to get simple T-shirts made so that everyone can identify us. "Yeah go green team!"

how about videos?

not necessary for them to be live, but if they were posted online pretty quickly, it might be cool. Shouldn't be too hard. Might be even easier if someone has one of those nifty cameras with wifi.

It might also be nice to have some sort of support personnel, someone who can bike around with a bunch of tools if you need it, or who could provide protection from road ragers/rapists. If they could also carry a camera, and take some videos, that'd be cool too, and they could just hand it off at a wifi hotspot/checkpoint on the route (if there isn't one, and I doubt that's the case, then we should make one). The tape could also be played on a monitor at that locale, which might entice a propietor to be a sponsor (as you mentioned already)..

I might volunteer to be that guy since one of my bikes is equipped to carry a lot of crap, but I'm still not sure if I might just race instead.

On number 2, we can still do

On number 2, we can still do a "near" realtime map display so people can get a quick overall snapshot of the current race status. Cuz, mapping and tracking are really separate.

If we can use somebody's projector we can put the results on a wall, but I really like your idea of promoting the display of our race results for other venues. This would actually be a good tie-in via Johnny's and the PBR rep. I'll let Stephanie know about this possibility this week.

re:SAG support
This is why you should choose your teammates carefully. Your team is your SAG support. If you crap out and can't complete a lap, your team should help you and then find a way to complete the lap. (or reverse that order for some teams, vbg)

re:Filming
There were some guys in a small pickup truck filming us last year. Does anybody know whatever became of that effort?

I'm not sure what happened

I'm not sure what happened to all of the pictures. But, it was "thebenreilly" who set up that operation.

Perhaps "thebenreilly" could

Perhaps "thebenreilly" could mix a 3min+- montage for youtube.com

I am talking with a friend

I am talking with a friend that may be interested in starting his Documentry on atlanta cycyling with the 24hr race.

If you have video stuff... bring it! we could make our own documentry with scrap footage and still images.

I don't....

...but I know a professional guy who's a lot of fun to work with who would probably want to help out. Or another girl. Or whatever. Want me to call them up and see what we can do?

Landand is really interested

Landand is really interested in documenting it... he will be back from Montana in mid October. He probably does need help with multiple people working on shots and stuff.

I talked to landan last

I talked to landan last night and he said that he has a professional crew interested in filming... :)

does he still need help?!?!?!

I've got a broke ass bass player with a broadcasting degree who refuses to get a real job.

This would be up one of his "free lance" alleys.

He always needs help (don't

He always needs help (don't tell him I said that). When he's back in town we'll get the gang together. Although now I'm riding so I won't be filming. Whatev.

And that's actually who I

And that's actually who I was thinking of. Well, him and the others we've worked with.
