two BIG pieces of information, you decide which is great and which is good:
1.) my roommates and I have secured our new home and enough of us have agreed to open it up to FM for the 24h relay! Yes, some of you have heard the rumors of what I was planning and now its a go!
However, I'll introduce #2, which may be more awesome (i'll get back to #1 later):
2.) Tonight while breaking the good news to a few kids, an amazing suggestion popped up: Has anyone thought about having Atlanta Brewing Company host the relay? They are in a prime location, have ample space for sleepers, drinkers, spectators, and racers, and they have the beer thing nailed down. This is seriously the most amazing idea, even more than 97E (me thinks). I think 2-3 people need to step up and talk to them to try and make this happen. If not we can fall back to #1.
1. cont') Most of you already know about our new space because I have been looking for roommates. Well now we have them and we want to make this thing happen. To refresh your memory:
-6500 square feet open space with built in bar, which provides ample space for bike storage, sleeping space, drinking space, pre/post relay group discussion, and dispersing (not cooking) donated food. We will be moving in 1-3 days before the relay and will keep everything as if no one yet lives there. All of our bedrooms lock from the outside so we can completely lock down our apt. We arent' worried about anyone trashing our stuff because the unit will still be 99% empty.
We request several things:
1.)We are NOT “hosting the relay”. Faster Mustache is hosting the relay; we are “providing a location.” This is for the same reasons that this is a “relay” and not a “race.”
2.)No mention of our street address in print or internet media. We don't want someone to be able to Google our address and get info about the relay. All advertisements will sent people to the website and from there people will know of the address
3.)Absolutely 100% alcohol consumption will happen in doors, in our apartment. Even though we will have some outdoor activities (registration, lap checkin), anyone with alcohol outside will be forced to leave.
4.)Absolutely zero % under-age drinking. We will be enforcing this with wrist bands available at the registration table.
5.)While we will be providing alcohol, we will not be selling alcohol. We are going to opperate exactly like an ABC/Sweetwater tour. You pay for a cup; the cup has tickets in it; you trade the tickets for a beer.
6.)Castleberry Hill quiet hours will be enforced. When the time comes, everyone except 2-3 people manning the lap checkin table, will be required to be inside.
7.)Absolutely zero car parking on site. Our neighbors are only upset by parking issues. We will find close by parking in the next couple of days and let everyone know where.
8.)Most importantly: This is not a party! This is a bicycle relay to promote bicycle awareness.
We will (try to) front money for the following: port-o-let, cups, wristbands, ice. In return, we need to be refunded for these things.
We also want the relay to be seperate from the location/alcohol. FM needs to man the registration booth and lap checkin. We'll man the bar. Entry into the race doesn't automatically give you a cup. You will need to buy one seperately.
If we can get beer sponsors to donate kegs, we can offer cups for very cheep (i.e. $1 for a cup with three tickets). Otherwise, we'll have to front money for kegs of PBR and charge like $5 for a cup with 3 tickets.
I think this covers 100% of the serious concerns. Now, like I said before, its up to the rest of you to get the little details figured out that will turn this RELAY from good into great. I've done enough; I need to spend the rest of my time training!
oh yeah: our place is located here

more on the space:
-almost no chance of what happend at Austin's bday party: no building manager. We are the only ones living in the building. the other two tennants work there 9-5 M-F.
-enough outside space.
-somewhat central downtown location
-THIS CAN/WILL HAPPEN THE WEEKEND OF SEPT 30- OCT 1.
Jason, you rock!
Jason, you rock!
Thought:
If the location/alcohol is handled seperately, that means we can probably decrease the registration cost, yah?
P.S. Jason, you fucking rock. I may have to name my firstborn child after you or something.
registration last year
registration last year covered t-shirts, spoke cards, etc. All the beer provided was donated IIRC.
Tonite, Stephanie was
Tonite, Stephanie was suggesting that we skip the preprinted T-Shirts and that everybody who wants a T-Shirt just bring their own blank to the race and we can silkscreen it @ Johnny's.
This is motivated by the situation last year when there were too many Large and Xtra-Large, and not enough Small and Medium.
Personally, I think we can just order more smaller sizes and little less larger ones.
What do people think about this?
me thinks that someone w/ a
me thinks that someone w/ a business connection with a T-shirt company (say American Apparel) could get shirts for a lot cheeper in bulk than each of us getting his/her own. I would much rather pay $10 for a screen printed shirt than $15 for a blank one.
I have a wholesale account
I have a wholesale account with alternative apparel
we also talked about having
we also talked about having SOME pre-made ones in addition to the bring your own if we could find someone to who was willing to FRONT the MONEY for them (which is the real problem here) preregistration with shirt is an option if premade shirts are wanted... it would just bring your cost of the race down if you did. you can get a pack of 3 blank ones at target or you can come visit me at my thrift store... we would want you to ware your shirt all the time so pick out one you really like vs. some shirt someone gives you... it's just an option...
also A good friend of mine is a manger at the alternative apparel so maybe we can get them to help us with a prize also... especially if were screening our shirts on their brand.
Long live the thrift store!

Nice Work
Nice Work! Jason, are all the dates we have been discussing available? I think probably the weekend of the halloween race (October 21st) is now the best weekend. Does that sound right? The weekend of October 7th is probably the next best, though it does interfere with 24 hours of Conyers, for which we have a number of people already racing.
Also, lets get with Dawn and make sure she/Johnny's is OK with this, seeing how we are in a tight spot. A tight spot, I tell ya.
How 'bout a Friday night meet'n to get us out of the tight spot
Can everyone interested in attending meet at my place tommorrow night for a little discussion/planning/boxing about the race?
Priority 1 & 2 would be to hammer down the date and location (b/w the ones already proposed)
Then we would do general discussion. I'm thinking the theme of the night should be progress with the underlying tone of sacrifice/bleeding/kidney stones/no play in GA.
I'll post a event if it looks worthwhile. (Just contact me personally if you hate me, aka you want to be there but you can't and I'll try to voice your opinion at the meeting)
event
Roger - do you want to make this an event on the main page? It sounds good to me. lets do it!
Can you guys combine this
Can you guys combine this event and Kurt's graphics meeting.
Short notice on Friday is tough, Monday is much prefered.
From the talking after the Wednesday night ride, it sounds alot like 10/14-10/15 is going to be the date. See if you can get Stephanie to come, she knows the Johnny's guy.
I hear conflicting info wrt to Sopo events. Ask Rachael if she can come.
I'm gonna try and score some prizes today, but who should I be coordinating with?
Jason didn't make the offer
Jason didn't make the offer until later, though, so there is that option to consider.
What was said last night?
There is no longer a
There is no longer a conflict with anything Sopo is doing, Rachael and Stephanie worked it out. Ask them for more info.
The date will be 10/14.
I still prefer the original date, but unless somebody wants to go around Stephanie and ask if Johnny's is available on the original date, then it is what it is.
Mad props to Jason and his generous offer, but I think the momentum has shifted.
really?
i don't remember hearing that but it may have been while i was fixing a flat or something. it would be nice to hear it from the source if that is the case.
indeed you were fixing your
indeed you were fixing your flat.
>it would be nice to hear it from the source if that is the case.
indeed, again.
Which is why I'm asking them, ie sources, to confirm by stating so on this board.
Maybe CK can punchup a sticky topic thread (ala the CM announcement) that summarizes the state of the FM24 race. Prehaps it should be moderated, ... Screw it. lets just start updating 24.FM.org and put a link to that on the fm.org frontpage.
Off to secure more prizes, gift certificates, etc...
it is unprofessional to keep
it is unprofessional to keep changing dates with a busniess donating lots of money, staff and time.... the 30th is too soon... something should have been done alot sooner for that date to have really work out. The is also an event that is an outreach into the comunity for cyclist. We could have done it from my Warehouse but i and my roommates don't want to front the cost for all the shizniz and liability that goes along with an event like this... besides how much fun it it to take over a business that you can go into anytime you want??? remember how much nostalgia 97 Estoria STILL carries from last year... it wouldn't be the same from someones house.
i have not heard confirmation about anything regarding Racheal desision. being as i have been riding the route all morning and networking. HOPEFULLY somehing wonderful will come out of it... I would hope to make this a real Benefit for SOPO aswell if they want to participate.
if someone does know that something has been agrreed upon about what is going on please call me. I do not have computer access at work. I have atleast 5 people ready to pounce all over atlanta with promotional materal and noses in the air for prizes... we just need a date confirmation.
at someones request as though i don't have much time i am trying to put as much information as i know about it on this site... i much more of a doer than i like to sit on the computer...
No combination
I don't want to combine these events. Monday we are only going to talk about graphics and cannot get bogged down.
