I'm going to go ahead and start a new thread where we just focus on discussing the date change for the 24 hour race.
Here's how it looks to me now:
Oct 14th-15th:
Pro: We have a host! Johnny's Pizza.
Con: Conflict with Sopo hills race & benefit. A number of people can't make it (toomanyaustins, others whose comments I can't find at the moment). Possible bad feelings about lack of discussion of date.
Oct 21st-22nd:
Pro: Doesn't conflict with Sopo. Some of the people above could ride.
Con: No host. Conflict w/ Halloween Parade. Sharon and I have a schedule conflict, and I'll bet we're not the only ones. North American 12 Hour Championship?
Sept 30th-Oct 1st:
Pro: Original Date.
Con: No host. Is it now too soon?
Oct. 6/7 or 7/8:
Con: Johnny's not available -- no host. See above.
Later than the 21st? Some people's feet might be healed by then, but it may be getting cold. We shouldn't put it off forever, either.

i propose having a huge sopo
i propose having a huge sopo celabration within the 24 hour race since they are not on the same day... cross promotion!
They are on the same day
Sopo's doing two things that weekend. Friday night is a benefit party. Saturday (or is it Sunday? Either way it conflicts.) is thye hills race. There are people who want to ride the hills race and the 24 hour race. There are people who want to ride/help organize the 24-hour race and have to help organize the party and the hills race.
I think the fundamental debate we're all having right now is whether the date or the location is more important. My vote is for date, but granted I'm biased. But we decided this date months ago and everybody cleared their calendars for it. It'd be unfair to screw over busy people at the last minute like this. It just seems to me that, as long as we're not feeling too picky, we can set up any old place to stage the race from. Geurilla style. Is somebody with a prime location and a yard willing to open their home to stage the race? A backyard, tents, sleeping bagd and a keg and we'd be alright I think.
does the hills race start
does the hills race start after 12 noon?
Starts at 8 am. And either
Starts at 8 am. And either way, 2 races on the same day? Not such a good idea.
What about the possibility
What about the possibility of keeping the same date and staging somewhere that's already open 24 hours? Waffle House, etc? Although it'd be nice, a swanky staging point is nonessential.
question??
Is johnny's NOT available on Sept 30 - Oct 1st??
first i heard that the date needed to be pushed back because of details related to tracking/route. this was solved yesterday within hours. now i think i heard that the date needs to be pushed back for:
-johnny's - beer stocking purposes (cases of pbr can be found all over town)
-johnny's - breakfast food stocking purposes (cliff bars and krispy kreme or cold pizza)
-marketing/advertising - i'm just wondering the margin on the number of people we recruit in those two weeks over the people we lose due to conflict with the original date and SOPO activities (is anyone going to claim responsibility)
-t-shirts - i can see this being put off until the last minutes regardless of the date (is anyone available to claim responsibility)
-prizes - really? i did not get to race last year but i have heard tons about it. not once has anyone mentioned the prizes but i have heard all about the good times and the glory. what happened to the glory?
Bingo
Bingo. Ding. Ding.
I think we have a winner.
All very sensible questions, in fact I actually ask this same question yesterday ~11:28am, and have yet to hear a direct answer.
So irrespective of what anybody thinks can be accomplished between now and 9/30, Is Johnny's available?
If not, then 9/30 is moot, and then we move on to plan Z, in which we decide if FM will even have a 24HR race this year, out of respect to Sopo, and the ONLY decision the group was able to make.
Plan of Action:
1) Is Johnny's available on 9/30?
2) If yes, lets make the race happen. This ain't rocket science, it took Skip and Justintime mere days to org the Justin Parker benefit race. It can be done. Lets just do it.
3) If no, then does FM what to disrespect Racheal/Sopo, or cancel the FM24Hour event.
Once these three issues are decided TODAY, then we can bother ourselves with the very modest task of a route, t-shirts and spokecards.
I agree. Beer & breakfast
I agree. Beer & breakfast are not hard to make happen. They don't *have* to be provided by Johnny's. I agree on the marketing stuff, too.
what hills race
there's nothing on the FM events calendar or the sopo site events thread or current news page about antyhing on oct 14 or 15. i would be interested in winning the hills race but as far as i can tell it doesnt really exist, so how can it conflict with antyhing? oct 15 is only what 4 weeks away. it cant seriously still be un/pre/announced. poeple gotta set up training/rest/peak weeks and shit to win a race!
(clarification: i am sure
(clarification: i am sure the hills race exists, but to me, a potential attendee/contender, i cannot tell that it exists )
It is my understanding that
It is my understanding that Sopo has been promoting the race through non-FM channels, trying to get squids to come out too, so it isn't just a question of talking to the party host, changing the date and informing everyone on FM. The Sopo website has not been the main vehicle for Sopo event promotion, as you can see from the "upcoming" info on their page. I think that the e-mail list and meetings are the main way of keeping people up to date.
Rachael, babe, add an event on FM, and update the Sopo website.
An entry in a calendar
An entry in a calendar doesn't mean diddly, its merely a convenience.
These discussion boards are what's definitive.
Marketing of the Sopo event is Rachael's deal to do with as she sees fit.
agreed, but if it goes
agreed, but if it goes undone it seems a bit off kilter to expect other people not to use the date
anyhow i have no input on this a'tall, i was just surprised to see that the hills race has a date. seeing as how it's in a few weeks now there is no way i can do it, so i am out!!!
Nonsense.
> it seems a bit off kilter to expect other people not to use the date
What's off kilter is not vetting an issue on the boards before you usurp the wishes of the group. Thats whats off kilter. IMNSVHO.
I mean for christ's sake everybody has seen the "Bad News Bears" and should know what 'assume' means.
re:Hills Race
You should always be prepared for a hills race. tic. vbg.
i guess i am just feeling
i guess i am just feeling disappointed/frustrated that the hills thing is not gonna be doable for me. i read ~months ago about a hills race TBD and was really excited about it but now suddenly there's a date and it's too late to arrange into my schedule, but that's my problem not the 24HR's problem. sorry!
ditto that.
ditto that.
Johnny's
Why isn't Johnny's available on October 7th?
I thought that I heard last
I thought that I heard last Wednesday at the ride that the 14th was the earliest it would be available. Also, the Conyers race is then.
