Faster Mustache

Faster Mustache is a progressive organization made up of a diverse group of Atlanta residents with one thing in common: riding bicycles. We believe in the power of cyclists to change our communities and our world through ongoing discussion, entertaining events, and positive action. Online and on the road, at work or at play, we challenge everyone to use a bike. It doesn't matter what type: fixed, free, geared, single, cruiser, chopper, racer, or clunker. No two bikes are the same and certainly no two riders are the same, but in the auto-centric city of Atlanta, we have fun sticking together. Simply put, we invite everyone to bike everywhere with us. Welcome to Faster Mustache!

Turn in a parallel grate

ABC is sharing its list of dangerous parallel grates with Lawrence Jeter, City of Atlanta construction manager to get them reoriented the right way. He's going to be in charge of working with Watershed to get all those grates that were installed incorrectly (a lot of that going on with the sewer work) fixed.

Send yours here - the more we can track down right now, the better!

It took me a LONG TIME to get their attention, so I could use your help to make this list as extensive as possible.

Nat'l Park(ing) Day this Friday

Sep 19 2008 - 8:00am
Sep 19 2008 - 5:00pm

Nat'l Park(ing) Day was originated by an art collective in SF and is now happening all over. Parking spaces are taken back for the day and turned into parks, art installations, etc- "the day when urban dwellers all around the world reclaim on-street parking spaces for purposes more creative and life-affirming than private motor vehicle storage". Streetsblog has some good (New York-centric) videos, photos, and info: http://www.streetsblog.org/2007/09/24/streetfilms-parking-day-2007/. The City of ATL is participating this year:

FM.24.08 Race Report

On September 6, 2008, 192 cyclists took to the streets for the 4th annual Faster Mustache 24 Hour Urban Bicycle Relay. Saturday morning's cool fall air was thick with anticipation as teams from Atlanta, Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg, Knoxville, Seattle, and London set camp in the Johnny's parking lot and on all sides of the building, claiming their space for the next 24 hours. The atmosphere was soon chaotic as the last racers turned in their waivers and bikes were checked for mechanical precision before the maiden lap. A warning was called out over the mega phone: "All riders must wear a helmet or their lap doesn't count!". The rules were explained, the T-minus was given, and at 12:00pm Saturday the race began.

Volunteering at FM.24.08

Even after the planning is done and the race is started, there are many tasks required to make the race run smoothly. In years past we have had more formal volunteer sign-up sheets, schedules, etc. This year I am counting on YOU to help us without officially signing up for a time slot. Please do your part by taking a small amount of time during the race to contribute to these positions, as needed:

- Parking police: make sure people are parking in designated areas (direct them to the Johnny's Secret Gravel Lot off Sampson St.) and not in other businesses parking spaces

- Refilling water coolers: coolers are stationed on the back porch and need to be refilled with ice from the kitchen, water from the hose, about every two hours
